Sarah tried to focus on work but her eyes kept going to the clock on the computer. It was late. Apparently, Nick wasn’t coming by. He’d probably never come over again. Even if she’d told him that she hadn’t been with Peter or anyone else it wouldn’t have made a difference. Nick wanted to fuck and they wouldn’t be doing that at her house, not with Tank here. The best she’d get for the next six weeks was an hour of fabulous sex every day. She sighed. Pathetic creature that she was, she’d take it.

She stood and went over by Tank, who was stretched out on the couch. He thumped his tail as she sat down and rested her face on his large, warm side. “I love you. You come first. Always.” In the end, when Nick tired of her, she’d still have Tank.

The dog nudged her with his nose.

“I’ll never leave you. I swear.” She captured his face and kissed his snout. “You and me forever.”
