Misted (Team Zero #5) by Rina Kent

“No… no…” My legs begin shaking and my fists clench by my side.

“Yes.” Her smile widens. “I saw how much Nero lusted after you so I sent him to your room. I knew either you or Hawk would kill him and escape, so I told the guards about a suspected escape plot and they caught you. Knowing Hades is so strict about any escape attempts, especially from his precious Zeroes, I knew he wouldn’t let you go unscathed. You lost the baby – and every baby. Hawk thought you betrayed him and it was all fucking over.”

Malice and pure sadism mar her wide grin. “There’s nothing more fulfilling than watching Hawk’s love for you turn into hate while you cried to sleep every night. Aaah good times.”

I charge at her with bare hands.

She caused my child’s death. She killed the life and dream I protected with everything in my might.

Molly digs her gun into Jessica’s forehead. “If you don’t want the bitch’s brains all over the floor…”

It’s with a miracle that I stop. My chest is heaving and my hands are balled into fists.

I’m going to kill her.

I’m going to fucking murder her and every bond I thought I had with her.

“Then, well, I blackmailed you all these years.” She sighs. “I enjoyed seeing you in pain and trying to be so fucking strong and almighty, but you allowed yourself a weakness in Hawk and these bitches.” She shakes Jessica by the hair. “You allowed me to destroy you so you can only blame yourself.”

“You want to kill me, is that it?” I grit out. “Let Jessica go and we’ll deal with this one on one.”

Molly laughs long and loud. “Kill you? No. I want to ruin you. I want to see you weeping blood and tears and wishing you were dead, Misty. Just like I did in that wardrobe while Daddy’s throat was slit open.”

“Why now? Why not all those years before?”

“You dared force my hand by removing the tracker. Aaand you didn’t listen when I told you to stay the fuck away from Hawk. You don’t get your happily ever after. Nuh-uh. Both of you need to die alone and miserable.” She cocks her gun at Jessica. “Let’s start with your precious bitches.”

It’s now or never.

I stare at Jessica then nod down so she’d lower her head. She does and in a split second, I reach into my waist, retrieve the knife and throw it at Molly’s hand that’s holding the gun.

Her weapon falls, clinking to the ground.

“Run!” I yell at Jessica and pounce on Molly.

Thankfully, Jessica staggers to her feet and trudges out of the warehouse. I wrestle Molly so I’m on top and pin her hands, preventing her from reaching to the gun. She tries to kick me, but she seems to forget I taught her these tricks. I lock her thighs down with my knees and punch her in the face. Blood explodes from her mouth.

She laughs. “Yeah, Mist. Hit me. Does that make you feel better?”

“You killed my child.” I’m punching her again, tears burning my eyes.

I loved this fucking bitch like she was my sister when all this time, she was making my existence a living hell.

“You ruined my life.” Another punch and another. “You ruined everything!”

“Not everything.” She spits through bloodied lips. “There’s still Hawk…”

I’m panting, but I stop punching her and clutch her by the collar.

“You should look at your face, Misty!” She laughs in a psychotic way.

“What have you done?” I shout, shaking her.

“See, I don’t have to do anything. Hades does. He already collected Hawk and do you know what Hades promised to do to Nero’s killer? He should be dead with his head hanging at The Pit’s entrance about now.”

My clutch falters and my breathing comes out long and deep.

Hawk is… dead.

No, no, no…

A black hole sucks me in and I can’t freaking breathe or think or exist.

Hawk can’t be dead. He can’t.

“That face,” Molly says in awe then laughs like a maniac. “That’s exactly the expression I wanted to see, Misty. That’s the face of you losing everything.”

She pushes me away and jumps up, holding the gun.

I don’t even try to stop her.

I don’t want to.

If Hawk is dead, then I’m done. Completely and utterly done. I only held on to life because he was in it. If his next destination is hell, then I’m going there, too.

“Bye, Misty.”

Blood flows everywhere.

Hawk

I’ll follow you through hell if it means I can hold your hand.

I kick Dr Sloane’s lifeless body and wipe her blood off my face. She’s drowning in a pool of her own blood in her classy house in Central London. Her throat is slit open, her stomach and legs are cut and lacerated, causing her limbs to loll in awkward angles.

The bitch begged. A lot. Just like Mist begged when this useless excuse of a human cut out our child and took sadistic pleasure in it. Just like she took away Mist’s right to ever be a mother again.

Unlike Hades, I don’t give second fucking chances. She was supposed to die fifteen years ago.

This is long overdue and I didn’t torture her as much as I would’ve liked, but it’s done.
