Her Striker by Charlene Raquel
Chapter Twenty-nine
The sun was just peeking over the trees when they started off toward their apartments. Thankfully, Jeff’s team had a couple of friends in the FBI. It had only taken them two hours to arrest Richard Mason for kidnapping, wrongful imprisonment, assault, and some other charges that Gwen didn’t remember. Lou Dunn was arrested for kidnapping and wrongful imprisonment. They found out that he was also breaking parole. Five guards and the housekeeper were also arrested on various charges. Ed was nowhere to be found and that was concerning, but the FBI promised to look for him. No one would admit who Dominic was or what his last name was.
The man was a mystery. None of the cameras in the house had managed to capture a full front photo. They found a couple of partial images. He had actively avoided them. None of the staff knew where the owners of the house were. They claimed the old couple had gone away on a month-long cruise, but that had been more than two months ago, and they had not heard from them since.
The staff hadn’t reported anything to the police because their salaries had continued to be paid and so had the house bills. The housekeeper had received an email from the couple announcing that their nephew would be house sitting. Ed and Lou had shown up shortly after. The FBI didn’t know who Dominic was, but they were hoping Lou and Richard would crack under interrogation. Until they found Ed and Dominic, she was still in danger.
Gwen was leaning up against Drew in the backseat of Jeff’s SUV. Sam was on the other side of her, and Dean took the front. The rest of Jeff’s team was in the vehicle in front of them.
She had learned that Rip, Crash, and Boomer were members of the special forces team that Jeff was a part of. They had rushed to Albany to help Jeff and her friends rescue her. She was so thankful for everyone who had helped rescue her. She could never repay them.
Drew couldn’t take his eyes off Gwen. “Are you sure you’re, okay?”
Gwen leaned closer to him. “My cheek hurts, but I’m really okay. I was lucky. It could have been so much worse.”
“You’re not going anywhere alone until we find those assholes. They’re still out there somewhere and probably pissed you got away.” Drew kissed the top of her head.
Jeff glanced in the rearview mirror. “Gwen, you need to be extra careful.”
Gwen nodded. “I will.” She turned to Drew. “What did I miss? You have dark circles under your eyes. It doesn’t look like it’s just from not sleeping last night.
“Oh, there’s a story.” Dean muttered from the front.
“Gwen, it was quite a night.” Sam took her hand and squeezed it. “Drew had some excitement of his own.
Gwen glanced up at Drew. “What happened?”
Drew didn’t want to worry her, but knew she needed to know what happened. “Well…” The story tumbled out, with Dean, Jeff and Sam chiming in with parts.
Gwen couldn’t believe everything that had happened. “They tried to kill you? How’d you survive? Did they give you the wrong anti-venom? What are you going to do now?”
Drew sighed. “I don’t know, but I’m going to find out. I’m a member of the Scorpio Society now. I can investigate from the inside. I’m going to find out who killed Landon and who tried to kill me. The Scorpio Society is going down.”
