To The Single Dad in the Store by J.S. Cooper

Chapter Twenty-Four

“I can’t believeyou actually pulled over!” I gasped as Steele leaned over to kiss me. “What if we get caught?”

“What if we do?”

“Won’t you get disbarred?”

“It’s worth the risk, don’t you think?” He unbuckled my seat belt.

“I don’t think so …” I moaned as he sucked on my lower lip. “Steele, you’re so naughty.”

“Don’t you like a man with a wild side?”

“I guess so,” I giggled.

“The only problem is …” He groaned as he slid his hand down the front of my dress and over my breasts.

“What?”

“This dress.” He laughed. “It’s in the way and it seems like it would be quite difficult to take off.”

“That is true. It took me ages to get it on in the first place.” I held my hands to his face and kissed him. “Can I ask you something?”

“Of course.” He grabbed my wrist and kissed it. “What is it?”

“When did you know you were falling for me?” I knew I was being the stereotypical woman, needing to know and be reassured of his feelings for me, but I couldn’t help myself.

“When?” He undid his tie and sat back in his seat.

“Yeah, when?”

“Honestly?”

“Duh!”

“When I saw you in the store looking around for groceries.”

“You mean when I came up to you?”

“No.” He caught my eye and smiled a little sheepishly. “I don’t know if I should tell you.”

“Tell me what?”

“Promise you won’t hate me?”

“Of course I won’t.”

“So, Josh isn’t that clumsy.”

“What do you mean?” I frowned.

“I told him to get your attention for me.”

“What?” My mouth fell open. “You mean you set it up from the beginning?”

“I mean that I wanted to get your attention.”

“You could have come up to me.” I rolled my eyes. “And you called Shelby immature!”

“What can I say?” He grinned. “Are you mad at me?”

“No, not at all.” I grabbed the collar of his shirt, pulled him towards me, and kissed him. “So you thought I was cute the first time you saw me, huh?”

“Don’t let it go to your head, beautiful.” He nipped my earlobe playfully. “So when did you know you liked me?”

“The first time I saw you standing there on your phone, ignoring me.”

“I wasn’t ignoring you.” He grinned. “I was trying not to laugh.”

“You’re a goof.”

“I know.” He ran his fingers through my hair. “But I’m your goof.”

“Yes, you are.”

“Let’s go back to my place. I’m going to combust if I don’t get to touch you soon.”

“You are touching me.”

“You know what I mean, Nellie.”
