Epilogue Two

~ Heller ~

About Sixteen Years Later

Most Fridays in the fall, Becca and I attended Kyler’s football games. Our son was as focused on his dreams as I’d always been. He’d never swerve from his assertion that he’d be a football player before he want to law school. Now, he was the high school’s star quarterback, and he had college offers from all over the States. He was the only child we could have, and we were so proud of him.

Tonight, though, was a little different. I’d worked late so we hadn’t traveled to the out-of-town game. At the moment, I was taking advantage of that, pressing my wife to the fridge in the kitchen.

“Heller,” she moaned, shoving her fingers through my hair. We’d been together for over twenty years, and the passion still ran hard through us. I lifted her onto the counter and her legs wrapped around me. I’d just pulled off her shirt when I heard the door slam open.

Moving fast, I pulled her down and behind me. I felt her struggling back into her shirt. Before I could gear up to take out the intruder, I saw it was our son. Home from the game hours early.

“Ky, you’re home,” I said. “Why aren’t you at your game?”

“Long story. Dad, I need to talk to you.”

“Without your mom?” My sixth sense about trouble twinged inside me. It had never steered me wrong, and I knew I wasn’t going to like what I was about to hear, but I needed to listen well.

“I need your advice,” he said, sighing while he stared at the tile floor. “Mom can stay. She needs to know, anyway.”

“Okay, let’s go sit down in the den.”

Once we were there, Heller launched into a story about his affair with a woman older than him. How he’d chased her and coaxed her into saying yes when she said he was too young. How he’d insisted that he was nineteen and not too young.

I glanced at Becca, knowing she had to be having the same déjà vu as me. She gave me a slight nod.

“Son…” I started. “We have a story to tell you…”

Thank you for reading!

Want a heads up on my upcoming projects?

I’d love if you’d join me over on Brynn’s Place on Facebook!

Dear Reader,

Thank you for reading about Heller and Becca. I had so much fun finally telling their story. Back when I wrote Kyler’s book, I had no idea what his parents would tell me. If you haven’t read about Kyler, be sure to read Quarterback Leap! If you have read Quarterback Leap, watch my group and newsletter for the free epilogues (that will now be included in the book). As I was ending Weathering the Storm, I realized I never published them. My goodness! Naughty author!

So you may have noticed that this is called the Dare To Love series. Over time, you may have wondered how it all comes together. This book is a connection piece (with two others that will show up). Obviously, Heller and Becca are the parents of Kyler from Quarterback Leap. But, Becca’s friend Addison is the mother of Blake, Micha and Brayden Sterling (from Half Past Normal, Switched Up and Penalty Call). I’ll show you the connection of the Banks family fairly soon (Merry Loves Bright). And Paige, from Billionaire’s Bunny, is Blake’s best friend.

They’ve all Dared to Love when love seemed out of reach! I look forward to sharing more daring couples with you very soon!

Until the next one,

~~ Brynn
