My Arrogant Boss by Kylie King

Chapter Two

FINN

Standing in a purple cocktail dress with amber eyes and a bright, wide smile directed at Aaron was my nightmare.

Rachel fucking Quinn.

I clenched my jaw as Aaron greeted her and watched as she acknowledged him with a big smile, her eyes twinkling beneath the crystal chandelier above her.

"Hi, Aaron! You look so handsome!” she said, still smiling.

"Oh, stop it,” Aaron grinned, teasing. "You look absolutely radiant, Rachel. Seriously, how do you do it?”

“Oh, stop it.” Rachel giggled and hugged Aaron around the shoulders. “So good to see you.”

As she pulled away, her eyes shifted up to mine, and as if she knew this time was coming, I noticed her nostrils flare, but she forced a smile at me anyway. “Finn,” she said, nodding.

“Rachel.”

God, she was beautiful. That was more so the reason I couldn’t stand her. Her beauty was the first thing I noticed about her, but she’d caught me at a bad time when we first met, and I’d given myself very little time to embrace that. Now, hell would have to freeze over before I gave her any sort of compliment on her looks. I wasn’t Aaron. I could easily pretend I didn’t notice.

“Aaron, I’ll need your keys,” she said, directing her to Aaron again, deliberately avoiding having to look at me. “It’s the rules for tonight. We don’t want anyone drunk at the wheel, so we’re monitoring before handing keys back when the guests are ready to go, and seeing as we have some guests here who are known to be ignorant and careless,” she spat, “we have to do what’s best.”

That last part was for me, and she made that perfectly clear by cutting her eyes at me and narrowing them before focusing on Aaron again and sticking her hand out.

"Oh, well, the keys are with Finn," Aaron said as he stepped past her, distracted. “I didn’t drive.” Katie was down the hallway, and he abandoned the conversation, rushing away to meet up with his fiancée, picking her up, and giving her a kiss.

Rachel sighed. Now she had no choice but to look at me, and a part of me wanted to gloat and laugh in her face about it.

"I’ll need your keys, Finn,” she said.

I folded my arms. "What if I don't want to give them to you?”

“Then you’ll have to leave now. Those are the rules, and just because you’re Aaron’s best man doesn’t mean you get to change them. We’ll have drinking games, and we have to monitor all drivers for safety.” She stuck her hand out impatiently. “So, if you want in and don’t want to ruin one of the biggest highlights of your best friend’s life, I’ll need your keys. Now.”

Her voice indicated she was done arguing with me.

“You know what?” I dug into my pocket. “I refuse to argue with you tonight or at any given time during Aaron and Katie’s celebrations.” I dropped the keys into her open palm.

Rachel gave me a smug smile. "See how easy that was? Thank you, Finn.” Sarcasm dripped with every word of hers. “Now you can go in and enjoy your night.”

I strode briskly past Rachel and toward the main ballroom, and if I weren’t mistaken, I heard a small laugh when I was halfway down the hallway. I really couldn’t stand her, and though I said I wouldn’t argue, I knew she was going to make it hard as hell to keep my mouth shut and be the bigger person.

She couldn’t stand me. And that was totally fine because I couldn’t stand her ass either.
