I lit a candle on top of a chocolate cupcake and shielded the flame with my hand as I carried it into the bedroom. Archie was still sleeping soundly, buried in his blanket nest as usual with only his closed eyes visible.
They popped open when I sang, “Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Archie, happy birthday to you!”
He wiggled his face out of a hole in his cocoon to smile beautifully. “Thank you. I know it’s going to be a great day if I get to start it with a cupcake.”
I chuckled and held it out towards him. “A sweetie for my sweetie. Blow out the candle and make a wish.”
As for me, all of my wishes had come true, beginning the day I met my sweet mate. The past year had been amazing. Archie joined me in the glass shop often and had sharpened his skills tremendously. He made some of the most beautiful art I’d ever seen, and much of it was displayed in our home in the form of suncatchers and figurines. He’d learned the lyrics to several new songs and liked to sing as Brodie played his flute. The duo gave lots of mini-concerts to our group of friends.
Archie made so many new friends within the coven and spoke often to our pals on the other side of the world...friends who, unbeknownst to him, were arriving very soon to celebrate his birthday with him. I vowed to make every birthday as special as possible for my mate, and I couldn’t think of a better way to honor the occasion than sharing it with the ones he loved. The Javier Coven gang loved to visit us and the area, so I hoped it would become a yearly tradition.
My mate took a deep breath and blew it on the candle, extinguishing the flame. “What did you wish for?” I asked curiously.
A naughty smile took over Archie’s lips. He unwrapped himself from the blankets, unveiling his gorgeous nude body and thick morning wood. “Come here and I’ll show you.”
I placed the cupcake on the nightstand and crawled over him. “As you wish, my love.”
