Remember Ramsey by Cynthia Eden

Epilogue

“It’s weird watching the mighty fall…” Imari turned to the man beside her. The man who’d been ignoring her for the last five minutes while he sat at the bar in Armageddon. “Never would have expected someone like Ramsey to fall in love.”

“Anyone can love.”

“Ah, finally, he speaks.” She tried a smile as Cyrus glanced toward her.

He didn’t smile back.

“How long are you going to be angry with me?” Imari asked, and, yes, dammit, she felt glum.

“I’m not angry.”

“No?” Totally could have fooled me.

“No.”

Her fingers tapped on the bar. Once upon a time, she’d worked in this bar. She’d been undercover back then. Some days, it felt as if she’d spent most of her life being undercover. She wanted a different path now. She wanted something real. “If you’re not angry, then what are you?”

“On my way to getting drunk.”

Not the answer she’d wanted. “Why are you shutting me out? I never wanted to hurt Ramsey. I was technically on your side all along.” Shouldn’t she get bonus points for that?

He stared at her. Just stared.

And under his intense stare, she shifted uncomfortably. “Cy?”

“I’m shutting you out because I realized that I can’t always have what I want.”

There it was…a question—one she’d asked—seemed to fill the space between them. Do you want me? Imari licked her lips. “Cy…”

He drained his shot glass. Let it clink back against the bar. “Good night, Imari.”

She grabbed his wrist. “Don’t you care at all about what I want?”

“Fine. What is it that you want?”

Imari realized she might just be looking at what—who—she wanted…

Oh, damn.

“No answer?” Cyrus taunted. “I thought as—”

She leaned forward and kissed him.

Ramsey wasn’t the only one who could get a happy ending.
