CHAPTER 29

JAKOB

Her Heat started on stage, in front of hundreds of potential buyers.

Her eyes were glazed over, the scent of her fear mixed with her delicious, honeyed essence.

My bids had no limit.

I barely got her out of there before the shots started.

Someone tipped the Saviors off.

The hallway turned into a chorus of screams and shouts, along with the push of bodies racing out the back of the building.

The Omegas were escaping, at least. By now, more of our forces should be waiting outside.

Unfortunately, it’s going to be a fucking bloodbath.

I can’t let her get into the middle of it until I know it’s safe.

I find the closest unlocked door and shove her into a small room.

She looks at me with heartbreak, tears filling her beautiful eyes.

She’s too unraveled to know who you are.

I leave her, despite everything in me screaming not to.

I return fire in the hallway while ushering Omegas out the back double doors, hopefully into the waiting arms of our allies.

I can’t save them all. Some fall victim to the bullets, just as the Saviors do.

We become outnumbered.

They tackle Omegas to the ground, the masked Saviors pulling out knives and bringing their blades down onto their mating glands.

Blood decorates the floor, and there are not enough bullets in my gun to stop all of them.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

It’s a scene out of a horror movie.

They ruin the Omega’s anatomy, so they can never mate with an Alpha.

Damaged goods.

I catch Calum returning fire, doing his best to stop them. But eventually, he has to leave, ushering as many girls as he can out the back doors before exiting.

I need to get to Amelia.

It’s a matter of ducking and running, firing shots the best I can.

There’s an Alpha trying to open her door. He kicks at the hinges, and I hear her scream from the other side of the wall.

Even with the overdose of suppressants in my system, she smells fucking irresistible.

I shove the Alpha away, but the look in his eyes is feral. He bares his teeth at me, trying to stake his claim, and I don’t waste any time pulling the trigger.

His body slumps against the door, adding extra weight, which helps me kick it down.

Holy shit.

Amelia is on the floor with her dress pulled up, her fingers working herself into a frenzy. Tears run down her cheeks as she cries, her body desperate for touch.

All in the middle of utter chaos.

Holy fuck.

I barricade the door with the dresser and pull her off the floor.

I know what I have to do.

She may never forgive me for it, but there’s no other choice.

I need to act quickly to ensure no one else can claim her.
