Killian

The next day,I was called back to the main island.

I wished I could take Legacy with me. I didn’t like the idea of leaving her with Rhett and West. Those two were hatching another escape scheme, and if they brought Legacy with them, they’d probably all end updead.

They hated that I didn’t help them escape. I knew all the ways to get back to the mainland. But it didn’t matter, not that I could get them to seethat.

The truth was, there was no escape from thepack.

“Don’t screw up,” I warned Rhett as I headed toward the boat that had come to take meback.

What I meant was, don’t get killed.

“You’ve always got the most heartwarming motivational speeches,” Rhett said, laying his hand over his heart.

“I’m serious. Legacy is counting onyou.”

He rolled his eyes. “You’re always serious.”

“You should try it sometime.”

I headed for theboat.

“Kill,” Rhettsaid.

“Yeah?” I turned.

He shoved his hands in his pockets. “I saw your little brother.”

God, he was going to use Sean as a bargaining chip. Of course hewas.

Yeah?”

“He looked good. Growing up. Growing into himself.”

“You got all that in a glimpse?”

“I talked to him,” Rhett said. “While we were waiting for Cyrus to hand over Legacy.”

“I didn’t ask you to dothat.”

“Relax, I can’t corrupt him in ten minutes. If I had those kinds of powers. I’d already have corrupted Legacy.”

“Didn’t you?” I could smell her on him, and it was irritating me in a deep, feral way that I didn’t even want to acknowledge.

Rhett laughed. “You know I’m never getting off this island. And you still manage to be jealous ofme.”

“No,” I said curtly, shaking my head. “And I don’t know that. Neither doyou.”

“Lucas is as bad as his father,” Rhett said. “Just as crooked and corrupt. The new regime is going to look just like the old regime.”

“Maybe you should’ve challenged him for alphathen.”

“Right,” Rhett said. “They’ve got those crazy powers. I’m sure that would’ve worked out forme.”

“They must be blessed by the goddess.”

“Always so political, Killian. I prefer to look for simple answers than to count on blessings.”

I cocked my head to one side. “Is that what you were doing before you were senthere?”

“I wasn’t just sent here for giving the alpha’s daughter the one-and-only orgasm she’s ever known.”

The alpha’s daughter was married, of course.

I turned my back on the cocky bastard, but he was by my side in a few quick strides. “Why exactly are you Cyrus’s bitch? We all watched you coming up, thought you could be alpha. You’re better than Lucas.”

“I’m not Cyrus’s bitch,” I said. “Back off, Rhett.”

Anger pounded in my chest. Thinking of Sean, in danger at home, made my vision go red. The only reason Sean was still alive was because of the bargaining chip it gave Cyrus overme.

“You leave my little brother out of this,” I warned him. “Out of your feud with the alpha.”

“I’m not the one dragging Sean into anything,” Rhett shrugged, completely nonplussed in the face of my rage. “I’m here. I can’t do a goddamn thing about what’s happening back in thatpack.”

I hated it, but I knew he was telling the truth.

If Sean was in danger, I was the reason. Because he’d do anything to help me, to bring meback.

But the alpha wanted to make sure I had a good reason to keep his secrets.
