Possessive Alien’s Mate by Luna Hunter

Chapter Seventeen

“What? Thiray, no!”

I run towards Thiray as fast as I can, down the aisle, past the dozens of elderly Thaana heckling my mate. I’m so proud of him for standing up for himself like that, for telling it like it is — and I’m equally disturbed by how his species is governed. He never told me any of this.

I’m half a yard away from hugging him when strong hands snake around my waist and pull me away.

“No!”

Thiray reaches out for me, our fingers touching for an instant. And then he’s pulled back as well, a dozen guards on either side keeping us apart.

The words from that evil woman still reverberate inside my skull.

Made mortal.

Banished.

Not allowed to leave.

In a few sentences, Thiray’s world and mine are torn apart. He will lose his connection, he will someday die, all because of me. And I’m going to be locked up for the rest of my life.

It’s too much to take in, too much to handle. I want to puke.

I fight tooth and nail against the hands that drag me away, but it’s helpless. I’m pulled out of the stately cathedral and thrown into the back of a van. The doors slam shut, and I’m surrounded by darkness. The engine rumbles, and the van takes flight.

I’m off. To who knows where.

Hot tears roll down my cheeks.

This can’t be happening.

I can’t be without him.
