Two Cowboys To Protect Her by Lacey Davis
Chapter 10
Whatever reservations Harley had about marrying Rena were gone after the time they spent in the brothel last night. The way she cuddled in her sleep. The warmth of her, the sweetness that oozed from her as she did her best to help them repair the house. The way she had worn her best dress to marry them, without her underclothes.
“Let’s stop by the sheriff’s office before we head to the church,” Clayton said, pulling his bolo tie straight.
Harley had worn his best shirt and pants. All of them were cleaned up and looking like they were on their way to a party instead of a wedding.
“We need to tell him about last night’s attack,” Harley said. “And that we’re marrying Rena.”
A blush spread across Rena’s face as she gazed at them. “Everyone will know what we’re going to do tonight.”
The men laughed. “They’ll be thinking those guys are so lucky.”
“No, they’ll be thinking Clayton is the lucky one,” she said.
And it suddenly hit Harley that Clayton would be the legal husband. He would be the one no one knew about.
As much as Harley wanted to marry Rena, it was best she married Clayton since his own future was so uncertain. After she told Clayton his mother raised a good man, it eased his fears. But Harley wasn’t certain of their future. As much as he wanted to stay and be Rena’s other husband, he had to settle with his father first.
He wasn’t sure if he would stay. And he couldn’t tell her just yet.
“Is everyone ready?” Rena asked.
She looked gorgeous in a blue dress that fit her curves without anything extra beneath. With her blonde hair and emerald eyes, he knew they were going to be two very lucky men to have her in their life.
“Let’s get married,” Clayton said with a grin.
“Yes, let’s get to the church before he closes. I can’t wait another night,” Harley said, remembering the feel of her body snug against his own last night. The taste of her on his lips, the way she curled around his body in her sleep and how he couldn’t wait to sink his cock deep into her.
They walked out the door and Harley carefully looked up and down the street. Then they pulled her out, carefully locking it behind them before heading toward town.
It wasn’t far and soon they entered the sheriff’s office. Harley noticed a woman with a baby in her lap sitting in his office.
“Oh, sorry, you’re busy,” Clayton said as they walked in the door.
“No, this is my wife Lillian,” Seth said. “She was in town and decided to wait on me. That’s our son Will.”
Rena, like all other women, was drawn to the child. “Oh, he’s growing so quickly.”
“Yes,” the woman said. “And we have a second one on the way. Very soon. Your dress is so pretty. Is something special going on?”
“We’re getting married,” Rena said with a smile.
The sheriff and her men all looked at her.
“Congratulations,” the sheriff said.
“Oh, how wonderful,” Lillian said and then she frowned. “Which one are you marrying?”
“Clayton,” she said smiling.
The sheriff glanced between the two of them. “Wait a minute. I know what you are doing. The same as me and Will. You’re going to share her.”
Rena’s head dropped and Harley felt bad about embarrassing her.
Lillian’s fingers lifted her head. “Do not be ashamed. I’m married to two wonderful men who have taken such great care of our little family.”
Rena’s emerald eyes widened and she glanced at her men. “There are other married couples like us.”
The men smiled at her. “Yes, there are."
“Soon we need to all get together. We’re a community now.”
Lillian leaned over and whispered something in Rena’s ear and her eyes widened. She smiled. “Thank you. I’ll remember that.”
“Oh no, the women are plotting against you,” the sheriff said.
Harley shook his head. “Last night, we had two armed horsemen throw torches through the windows and fired shots into the house. Luckily none of us were hurt. They took off before I could see their faces.”
The sheriff sighed. “I’ve been doing some follow up and talking to the neighbors. One said they did hear screams that night of the killing. Why in the world they didn’t check them out, I don’t know, but they did hear some yelling.”
Harley stepped back. “Have you heard anything else about the missing map?”
“No, that’s a dead end.”
They glanced at the women quietly talking. The two had a common bond and Harley could see that Lillian was indeed making Rena feel calmer about wedding and committing to the both of them.
But could he commit to her? And if he didn’t, would she realize that he had not promised to love and stay with her forever? Yes, he wanted a family. Children and a wife to love, but first, he had to meet with his father. How could he find peace if he didn’t go to him?
“It’s three o’clock and if we’re going to get married and then have dinner at the restaurant, we better get a move on,” Clayton said. “But we wanted you to know the killer has not given up.”
“Be careful tonight,” the sheriff said. “But most of all, I hope you have a wonderful wedding and fantastic wedding night.”
Harley glanced at Rena and her cheeks flushed pink.
“I told you everyone will think about it,” she said as she looked at Harley.
“Who cares?” he said. “All that matters is what happens between the three of us.”
“You’re going to be a married woman,” Lillian told her as she squeezed her hand.
Harley glanced at Clayton. It was time to make Rena theirs. Even if he didn’t stay, he knew he would always be welcome if he decided to return. Or at least, he hoped he would.
