Chapter 43

Explaination

Sal

“You should tell him,” Terry says.

“Why? It's only gonna cause us to argue and fight, things have been so peaceful.”

Terry rolls his eyes at me and crosses his arms over his chest. “Like you guys haven't already come close to blows several times today. It's your sister’s wedding, shouldn't everyone be happy?”

“I'm happy, I'm just a little irritable.

“And for how long do you think you'll be able to keep the reason for that irritability away from him? Tell him, he's going to lose his shit if you don't.

“You don't understand, he's not ready for this,” I plead. “I promise to tell him, just not today. Like you said, it's my sister's wedding. The last thing we need is for him to lose his mind in the middle of the reception.

“Here he comes, and he has that look on his face again,” Terry sings. I follow his line of sight and find Gutter sauntering toward us. There's a scowl on his face and his hair looks disheveled as if he's been running his hand through it repeatedly. “Tell him,” Terry whispers in my ear.

Gutter

If Terry wasn’t gay, I’d be ready to kill him. Every time I look, he’s hovering around or over Sal. The two are almost inseparable. Somewhere along the line, they became besties.

Unfortunately, Sal and I have been knocking heads all day. I'm not sure what I did this time, but I plan to find out. I'm under enough stress as it is.

A few of my guys think they have located Spencer they just haven't been able to confirm. If he has resurfaced, then I have a new problem on my hands. I'm gonna put him to ground as soon as I set eyes on him.

I find it awfully convenient that he would appear at a time such as this when we're all busy with the wedding. The report came in about a week ago, right around the time we had the house framed out and right when Eva and Sal, and the girls, all started finalizing things for the wedding. Everyone has been super busy.

I plan to confirm things for myself after this wedding is over. Needless to say, we’ve both been high-strung. Sal stressed with the wedding and me stressed out with everything else on my plate.

“Can we talk?” I asked as I stop in front of Sal.

She has this weird look on her face, it's the same one she's had for the last two weeks. As if she has something she wants to say but doesn't know how to say it. I look over her shoulder at Terry and glare at him, he's helping her keep this secret.

I grab Sal by her elbow and start to walk away, putting distance between the three of us. However, she yanks her arm away and glares up at me.

“What's wrong with you?” she says and swats at my arm.

“What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? Every time I go to talk to you, you bite my head off. What have I done?”

“I wouldn't bite your head off if you weren't acting like a jerk.”

“A jerk, me? This would be so much easier if you would just talk to me and tell me what's going on.”

At this point, we're creating a scene in the middle of Eva's wedding. I look around at all my brothers and their old ladies, looking on as we argue. I notice King glaring at me from across the yard.

I turn back to Sal, standing before me with her hands on her hips, her nose scrunched up as she makes this cute little angry face. I don't know whether to be angry or to laugh. When I do, I release a small chuckle as I shake my head, she turns and storms away.

“That could have gone a lot better,” I mutter to myself.
