We kissed and danced, a slow sway to a rhythm that wasn’t played but both of us heard with our hearts. And it felt like eternity caught between our lips. Eternity, and hope. And amazing just as wonderful and weighty things.

We kissed until Caelum froze, gasped, then abruptly pulled away. His eyes unfocused as if he was looking beyond me. His dark brows furrowed.

He took hold of my hand, tugging me toward the temple steps and down. “We have to hurry!”

“What’s the matter?” I managed as we ran.

“It’s Citali,” he panted. “Beron says she’s dying.”

I opened a portal and demanded it take me to my sister, dragging Caelum through with me.
