Chapter 34

-Greer-

Standing in the middle of Raf’s lawn and being kissed until the stability vanished from my knees, sealed my fate.

The sheer passion in the way he held me spoke to my soul. I was entirely at his mercy. His fingers, adorned with words and symbols inked under his beautiful brown skin, dropped to the curve of my throat and applied pressure in a display of gentle possession.

To be kissed—ravished—with such a cliche mix of tenderness and impatience, infused life into my entire being.

My back arched and my fingernails scored across the top of Raf’s head as he swept me away in an unexpected torrent of affection.

We should never have been. Our kingdoms should never have touched. But here he was—the uncut diamond with a heart of gold, tearing down my walls and staking his claim.

He hummed into my mouth, the sound a mix between pleasure and pain.

“You need to stop that,” he murmured huskily.

I let out a soft breath while my heart pounded. “Stop what?”

“Stop making it so easy to want more of you.”

The somersault in my chest induced a sudden ache. I flicked my eyes back and forth between his, suddenly out of my depth and drowning in the exposed emotions beneath the surface.

“But I’m not doing anything special.”

“Exactly,” he whispered. “You’re just being you.” Raf turned me in his arms and ran his nose down the length of mine. “The more you’re within my world, the more I want you here. With me.”

We held the same breath as we silently searched each other’s eyes. When the intensity became too much, Raf kissed my mouth and wrapped me in an overpowering bear-hug.

“So, uh…” he started, then abruptly stepped back and ran a hand over his head.

Affection tumbled throughout me to see the confident, street-racing King stammer his way through the uncertainty of not knowing what to do next.

“Raf.” His eyes lifted to mine. “Don’t overthink it. Take me for a ride in your car, then bring me back here because I have an overwhelming urge to count the thread-count of your sheets.”

Raf let out a shocked cough that morphed into a hearty laugh. “Shit, mamacita, that’s the best damn idea I’ve heard all day.”

I let out a whoop of laughter when he scooped me into his arms and strode to the garage with my legs wrapped around his waist.

“My shoes!” I exclaimed.

“Where we’re goin’, you won’t be needing your fucking shoes.”

My bare tiptoes landed on the smooth concrete garage floor, and I slipped into the passenger seat of his Hemi Dart when he opened the door for me. Raf slid behind the wheel with an earth-shattering smile on his face.

“Prepare yourself, Boss Lady, because this ain’t like anything you’ve ever ridden in before. She’s about to get loud, and later, so will you.”

With a quick flick of his wrist, the car roared to life. The deep grumble of the engine vibrated every bone in my body, and as Raf closely watched my reaction, I couldn’t help the curse of anticipation that fell from my mouth.

“Shit.”

Raf came through for me that afternoon. The cruise down the coast southbound to San Clemente was gorgeous, more so when I tore my eyes from the view and looked over at Raf relaxed in the driver’s seat with an elbow resting on the open windowsill and the other wrist casually slung over the wheel.

A palpable thickness hung in the air around us the entire trip. Judging by the heated glances that roamed over my bare legs every chance he got, he looked forward to getting back as much as I did.

The hours we spent together were effortless and simple, and the invisible restraints of our professional relationship fell away as if they’d never been there to begin with.

Once we got back to his place, he took control and worshiped my body as promised. Every sigh and every moan were as if our spirits spoke a secret language that only they could understand.

When Raf dropped me at my condo later that evening, a satisfying ache lingered between my legs; one that echoed the happiness blooming within my heart.

Spending most of our time together over the past few days had cemented my decisions about the foundation account; it was time to talk to Tian.
