On His Desk by Mia Faye

Chapter 25

MICHAEL

Every so often, Venture Capitalist firms hit a jackpot. I think ours is just around the corner. I whistle as I leave the second floor after a meeting with Oliver and several associates.

Two years ago, we invested in a software shop and it’s grown exponentially, exceeding our expectations. Microsoft is interested in buying it and we estimate the software shop to be worth close to nine-hundred-million-dollars. We work hard every day for moments like this.

I don’t want to celebrate prematurely but I can’t keep the grin from my face as I go into Ava’s office.

She looks up and smiles. I live for that smile. “Looks like the meeting went well?”

“Yes,” I tell her and go around to her side of the desk and perch myself at the edge.

To my surprise, I proceed to tell her about the shop and Microsoft’s interest. I normally keep my business strictly to myself. I never discuss work with a woman but then again, I’ve never had an affair with an employee.

Ava’s eyes widen and sparkle. She nods as I speak and doesn’t interrupt.

“That’s some win,” she says when I finish, her voice filled with awe. “I’ve been doing some reading. From what I understand, the best scenarios are two—what you’ve just mentioned, some big shot company buying out your investment and IPO’s, right?”

“Exactly. Good job.”

She blushes and then her hand innocently rests on my thigh. Not so innocent, I think as I take in the mischievous twinkle in her eyes. As we talk, her hand snakes up my thigh until it is resting on my cock. All it takes is one touch from Ava, and my cock forms a tent at the front of my trousers.

Ava moves her chair so that she’s seated in between my legs. She unzips my pants and dips her hand into my boxer briefs to pull out my cock. I sigh deeply as she wraps her lips around the head and licks off the drops of precum quickly gathering at the tip.

“I love your cock,” Ava says, looking up at me as she speaks.

She shows me exactly how much by taking all of it into her mouth. I close my eyes, overwhelmed by the sensations coming over me. She swirls her tongue around the sensitive head of my cock, and I groan in response. My hand goes to her head to hold it in place.

“Fuck, yeah,” I growl.

Her hands and mouth work in sync, cupping my balls and sucking my cock. Her tongue reaches down to lick my balls and I almost come from the intense sensations.

I murmur her name over and over again as my cock throbs. My moans grow louder, and my balls tighten.

“Fuck!” I growl as I shoot cum into Ava’s mouth. She swallows all of it and then licks my cock gently all the way to my balls. She raises her head and a proud grin covers her face.

“You taste yum,” she says and licks her lips.

My cock makes a half-hearted attempt to rise again. This woman has me in the cradle of her palm, I think to myself.

“Thank you?” I say and she laughs.

I tuck my satiated cock back into my trousers and zip up my pants.

“It’s a shame you can’t stay like that,” Ava says with a laugh.

She’s changed so much in the last couple of weeks. First impressions rarely tell the whole story. The Ava I first knew seemed so serious albeit sexy. In reality, she’s playful and easy. The kind of woman you’d definitely call your best friend as well as your lover.

It surprises me. My relationship with Paige had a completely different vibe. We were in a romantic relationship and were not really friends. I’ve never thought of the two as mutually inclusive. My friends are guys while the woman I’m sleeping with is my lover. Never have the two ever been one. I like it though it frightens me a little. Then I remind myself that I’m the master of keeping my feelings out of it. This is a game I know how to play well. Except I don’t feel as confident and cocky as I normally do.

Ava has chipped away at the ice block that is my heart. I’m starting to thaw and feeling emotions I never thought I’d feel again.

“Paige and Elly are moving in today?” Ava says.

“Yes, this afternoon.” Pleasure wafts through me. I can’t imagine waking up and seeing my daughter the first thing in the morning. “Elly’s room is done. I can’t wait to see her reaction.”

I get off Ava’s desk. “I’m leaving early, do you want to come with me?”

“I’ll take a raincheck if you don’t mind. I’m meeting Miley for dinner tonight.”

I swallow my disappointment. I’d hoped that Ava would want to be with me at such an important moment in my life. It’s Friday and I’d already mentally made plans for us for the weekend. A mistake. I’m disappointed in myself as well. I’m allowing my emotions to rule me.

We both made it clear to each other that a relationship was not in the cards. Letting myself become attached to her is a mistake. A mistake that will cause me another broken heart and I vowed that would never happen again.

“No problem,” I tell her, though my voice comes out tight. “Have a good dinner, and I’ll see you on Monday.”

Paige calls me at half-past two. She and Elly are downstairs. I let them up. I feel a lightness in my chest as I wait for the elevator to deposit them in my living room. When they emerge, I can’t keep a grin from my face.

“Elly, welcome home!” I tell her and she comes to me and gives me one of her warm, tight hugs. She clutches a worn teddy bear.

“Who is this?” I ask her.

“I told her to leave her old teddy behind. She’s a big girl now,” Paige says irritably.

Elly’s lower lip trembles and my heart squeezes.

“I don’t see what the problem is. I had a teddy bear when I was growing up until I was twelve years old.” Not true but I’d say anything to make my girl feel better.

It works. She looks at me with a hint of a smile and I plunge in, making up stuff as I go along.

“His name was Stubble,” I tell her.

“Stubble?” Paige says a skeptical look on her face which I ignore.

“Did you sleep with him?” Elly asks.

“Every night,” I tell her. “What’s your teddy’s name?”

“His name is Squishy,” Elly says.

“I know why?” I cry out as if I’ve just discovered the cure for a disease. “It’s because he’s so cute.”

She giggles. “No. It’s because he makes a squishy noise when you squeeze his tummy. Mommy says it’s because he loves me so much.”

“That’s true,” I tell her. I notice then that other than squishy and Paige’s handbag they have no luggage. I turn to Paige. “Where are your things?”

“They should be here now,” she says with a glance at her phone.

As if on cue, her phone rings and she answers. While she talks on the phone, I take Elly’s hand and take her to her room. We stop at the entrance and she just stares.

“Is this my room?” she says in a small enchanted voice.

I’m so happy, I feel as though I’ll burst. “It is.”

She walks in slowly looking everywhere.

“They’re down—” Paige starts to say and comes to a stop as she takes Elly’s room. “Oh, my goodness, Michael.” I’m pleased with her reaction. “You always did go the whole way,” she says as she looks around.

“Mommy, look, I have a slide,” Paige says as she climbs the steps to go up the slide.

“She’ll never want to go back home,” Paige says.

“That’s the plan,” I tease.

“Thank you,” Paige says unexpectedly.

“You’re welcome,” I tell her. “Your room is next door.”

We leave Elly to enjoy her room and proceed next door. I hold the door open and Paige goes in. It’s a beautiful spacious room, with a gorgeous view of the city.

She goes to the windows and whirls around. She contemplates me. “I had hoped we would share the master bedroom. We did, once upon a time.”

I’m taken aback. “That was years ago, Paige.”

She cocks her head. “So? We can start again from where we left off.” She closes the distance between us and places her hands on my chest.

I resist the urge to take a step back. Instead, I place my hands over hers and gently tug them away. “Listen, my invitation had no hidden agenda. I’m not interested in what we had once upon a time.” I hate to spoil her fantasies, but I really can’t have her thinking that there’s a chance for us.

“I’m sorry,” Paige says. “I’m pushing you.”

I shake my head. “That’s not what I mean...” Before I can explain myself further, her phone rings again.

“Oops, I forgot, the movers are downstairs,” she says with a giggle.

“I’ll let them up,” I tell her.

It’s only when I’m going to the escalator that it hits me. Movers. Why did Paige say movers? No one needs movers for just a few suitcases.

Except they are not a few. It seems as if Paige has moved all their stuff into my apartment.

“Are you sure that’s all of it?” I ask her when the last suitcase is deposited in the guest room.

Paige frowns. “Yes, I think so.” She could never tell when I was being sarcastic.

Suddenly I miss Ava. I wonder what she’s doing. I excuse myself and go into my room to give her a call. Her phone just rings and rings. Knots of anxiety form in my stomach.
