Daddy’s Little Liar by Lila Fox

Chapter Seventeen

She jerked away from him and stood. “You’re doing this for me?”

“Yes, and me. I’m tired of the city and the cold.”

“But you love this city.”

“I do, but I’m excited to be around other people who understand us.”

She turned her back for a moment.

“Come back here and sit down.”

She sighed and did what he asked.

“Why are you upset with this?” he asked.

“I don’t want you doing this just for me.”

“I’m not, honey. I can’t tell you how excited I am to do this, and nothing in my life will suffer. It will just be better.”

She wanted to believe him so badly, but something held her back.

“I’ll do anything you want, Daddy.”

“I want you to be as excited for this move as I am.”

“I’ll try.”

“Stuart and I are looking at houses…”

“Will he come with us?”

“Yes.”

“What about Karina?” she asked hopefully.

“I think so. Stuart was going to ask her. Anyway, I want you involved with the decision. Is there anything you want that we should be looking for?”

“What about a pool?”

“That’s a good idea. It gets scorching there in the summer.” He bent forward and picked up his laptop he kept in the bedroom. She watched him type for a moment, and then he handed her the computer.

“Here, look at these. These are the houses Darian sent us to look at. I want your opinion.”

She scrolled through the pictures. Each house was enormous, about as big as the one they lived in now. Each had its own style. “Can I look at these for a while? There are a lot of pictures to go through.”

He nodded. “Sure. I’ll leave you to it while I go downstairs and get some work done.”

He bent forward and pressed a kiss to her lips before he stood and walked to the door. “Dinner will be ready in an hour. I’ll come for you if you’re not downstairs.”

“Okay.” She waited until the door closed and started looking through the listings. It was nice that they had a virtual tour of each house because it was easier for her to see. She could see them being happy in any of them, so that was what she’d tell Rylan.

It was also in the back of her mind that she didn’t want to pick anything out and end up not even going with him.

Her head jerked toward the door.

“Hey, ready for dinner?”

A glance at the clock on the DVR showed her an hour had passed already. She set the computer down, walked to him, and took his hand.

“Did you like one better than the other?”

She shook her head. “No, they are all beautiful houses. I’ll love whatever you pick.”

She felt his gaze on her, but fortunately, he didn’t say anything.

He sat her down in her chair and then walked into the kitchen. A maid came through the door with two plates, and he followed in behind her.

He grinned at her as he sat.

“What?” she asked.

“Karina is coming with us, and she’s so excited about it.”

Faith’s mouth dropped open. Maybe this would work if it made them all happy.

“You’re really excited about this?” she asked him.

He smiled and gripped her hand. “You have no idea how happy I am, baby. I’ve thought about this for a while, but now it feels like the best time, and everything seems to be falling into place. Would you like to be able to see Larkin and some of her friends who are littles like you?”

She decided to think about this later when she was alone, but now knowing everyone was happy to move made her spirits lift.

Maybe this would work out after all.
