Yours to Keep by Claudia Burgoa
Hayes
Dear Hayes,
Things between us were never the same after I divorced your mother. How is she? I hope she’s happy with her new husband. She deserves to be happy. If you receive this letter, it is because you’re back with Blaire. I can’t believe you let that girl go, but I hope you two mended things and are now happy.
I don’t think I deserve your forgiveness, or anyone’s for that matter. Just know that I love you. After so many years of living with anger, I realized that everything I did was all a wasted thing. I have many regrets but know that making you live in Baker’s Creek isn’t one of them. I’m hoping that you’re now part of a family. The family I wanted to create almost forty years ago. When the eighteen months are over, don’t let your brothers go. Make sure you stay together.
I love you, and I’ll always have those days when we sat by the dock and fished together.
Love,
W.
P.S. Every time you’re fishing, I’m right next to you.
