Doctor Daddy’s Long Lost Little by Scott Wylder
CHAPTER FIVE
Bethany
The evil look on Nancy's face told me that, in the split second before the food toppled onto me, she was doing it on purpose. Thinking quickly, I smacked the mugs of coffee out of her hand, and they clattered onto the floor as the other items fell all over me and my hair. As soon as the disaster was over and the dust settled, I looked up at Nancy, who actually looked disappointed as she stared at the coffee cups on the ground.
"You're paying to replace those," she snapped as she looked back up at me. I shook my head as I looked up at her.
"How about you go back to that kitchen there, go get Marie, and show her exactly what you just did just because you have an old high school grudge against me all because Bryce didn't accept your advances?" I asked as I looked at her. "Seriously, this is just low…" Nancy rolled her eyes as she looked at Bryce.
"Sorry about all that," she said as she smiled sweetly at him. "I'll go back and get you the order again. This first one is on me." She then glanced back at me. "Sorry, it's on her, but you know what I mean." Much to my surprise, Bryce shook his head.
"You know what, no," he said as he rose to his feet. "Go get Maria, please. I want to have a word with her." Nancy batted her eyelashes at him.
"There's no need to bother Maria," she protested in a gentle voice as she leaned in. "After all, you saw what your little friend did. She attacked me and made me drop everything." My face burned red as I glared angrily at Nancy.
"You fucking bitch," I said as I got to my feet. "You do know that there are cameras here, right? You'd never be able to prove your bullshit story. Now, either go get Maria, or I'm going to go get her myself." Bryce shook his head.
"No need," he said as he rose to his feet and made his way towards the kitchen. "I'll get her." Nancy whirled around and screeched like a bat out of hell as she charged after him.
"No!" she shouted as she charged after him. "There's no need for this!" My curiosity got the better of me, and I followed them into the kitchen. By the time I got past the hot stoves and the many staff who were staring at me in shock, Bryce was already in the back office, and he was talking to Maria, who was staring at Nancy in disbelief.
"You did what?" Maria asked as she stared Nancy down. "Are you insane? Or are you just looking for a reason to get fired?" Maria stopped when she saw me. "Bethany?" I smiled politely at her and gave a nervous wave.
"Hey there, Maria," I said as syrup dripped down my forehead. "Sorry for the mess. I assume Bryce told you what happened?" Maria nodded and stood up.
"Believe it or not, we have a shower upstairs since I live above the restaurant," she told me. "If you want, I have a few spare shirts. No extra pairs of pants, though." I shook my head.
"It's okay," I told her as I smiled at her. "I'll get cleaned up when I get home." Maria nodded and looked back at Nancy.
"I warned you that you better cut this misbehavior," Maria told her. "This is the third occurance in the last two weeks. I'm going to have to fire you." Nancy's jaw dropped as she stared at her.
"What?" she asked as she shook her head. "That's not fair! It was an accident!" Maria shook her head.
"Accident my ass!" she shouted as she rose to her feet, both Bryce and I taking a step back when we saw the anger flashing in her eyes. "That's what you said when you dumped food on that guy last week all because you thought he was Ian Blake's boyfriend. Enough is enough!" Maria pointed towards the back entrance. "Get the fuck out of here before I call the police." Nancy screamed in rage, grabbed her apron, and threw it on the floor.
"You'll be hearing from my lawyer!" she screamed, and Maria nodded.
"Good, especially since we have everything on camera, and I can get you jail time for assault," she remarked with a grin. "Now get the fuck out!" With that, Nancy went stomping out of the office and out the door. The stunned silence from the kitchen staff was quickly met with a round of applause from the rest of the kitchen. Maria turned to smile at us. "Sorry about that. I should have fired her years ago." Bryce shook his head and smiled kindly at Maria.
"It's okay," he said as he grinned. "Looks like the wicked bitch is gone for good, huh?" I nodded in agreement.
"If you ever need witnesses, let me know," I told her as I smiled at them. "I know lots of people who have had bad encounters with Nancy over the years." Maria nodded.
"Thanks," she said gratefully as she looked at the two of us. "I highly doubt she'll have the guts to do it, but I'm keeping everything just in case." She shook her head as she smiled at us. "Enough about her, though. Are you guys hungry? I can whip up your order pretty quickly." Bryce shook his head.
"That's really sweet, Maria, but I should take Bethany here home so she can get changed," he told her politely. "I'll be stopping by for breakfast, though, first thing in the morning." Maria nodded as she turned to look at me.
"Should I expect you here as well?" she asked hopefully. "It's been much too long, and I've missed you." I smiled and nodded.
"Of course," I told her as I smiled at her. "I'll be here in the morning as well." She nodded, a smile lighting up her face.
"I'd hug you right now, but, thanks to my ex employee, I better let you go get cleaned up," she said as she smiled at me. "I'll see you both tomorrow!" Both Bryce and I said our goodbyes and headed outside to his car. He stopped and studied me for a moment.
"I should probably put a towel on the seat," he said as he smiled at me. "Just one second." He immediately dug around the trunk of his car and pulled out two towels. "Here. In case you wanted to clean up a little." I smiled and nodded as I accepted them both.
"Thanks," I told him as I set one of the towels down, still embarrassed by everything. "I take it the night's over?” He shook his head.
"You still want to hang out?" he asked as he smiled at me. "I've got my own place. We can sit and talk while I make us some food, and you can get cleaned up." I smiled and nodded in agreement.
"I'd like that," I told him, and we drove off.
