Mine to Take by Lila Fox
Chapter Fifteen
“What are we going to do?” Amelia asked.
Fury held up a finger to stop her from talking and looked at Traeger. “Go get a few prospects.”
Within a few minutes, three men, including Traeger, came into the office.
“I need you to watch over Zoe tonight. We’ll take shifts until we get her moved in here.”
“That’s great. She’s pretty cool,” Buzz said.
“We agree. Call me if you see anything suspicious.”
“You got it, boss.”
The men left, and Traeger sat back down.
“I’ll call one of our contacts at the police department. If I remember right, Clarke has had a lot of problems in the past. I want to see what’s happening now, if there’s an investigation or what.”
“In the meantime, we’ll…”
Fury stopped and looked up to see Savage standing in the doorway. “What do you need?” He wasn’t going to make this easy for him. He’d given up way too easy, and if he wanted Zoe, he’d have to step up.
“Nothing.”
“All right. We’re in the middle of something.”
“Okay, fine.”
Fury watched him turn and take a step away before saying, “Okay, what was I saying? Oh, yeah, until she moves, we’ll keep our eyes on her to make sure she’s not harmed.”
Fury watched the shadow outside his door move away and grinned.
Amelia looked toward the door. “What are you smiling at?”
“I’ll tell you later, babe.” He turned back to the other two. “Let’s talk more about this tomorrow after I get some more information.”
“I’ll talk to a few of our informants to see if they have anything.”
Fury nodded at Traeger. “Good idea.”
“What do you want us to do?” Tara asked.
“Nothing right now. Just act like you normally would.”
The woman nodded.
“All right, girls, I’ll need you to leave. I’ve got some calls to make.”
Amelia pressed a kiss to his forehead and took a step away. He yanked her back and into his lap, making her scream, and then slammed his lips down on hers. When he raised his head, he was pleased to see her dazed expression. He’d never get tired of her.
“I love you, babe.”
“I love you, too.”
“Good. Now get out.”
She snorted and then squeaked when he slapped her ass as she walked away. “That wasn’t nice.”
“I’ll make it up to you later.”
“Okay,” she said and grinned.
He chuckled as she followed Tara out of the room and closed the door behind them.
He turned to his vice prez. “We’ve got to find some way to get Clarke because I have a feeling he’s going to start causing us a whole lot of trouble.”
“I agree. We could always plant some drugs on him.”
“That’s a good idea, and I think our friends in the department would help us because they want to get rid of him, too,” Fury said. “It sounds too easy, but I’ve found the less complicated the solution is, the better it is.”
Traeger grinned. “What are we going to do about Savage?”
Fury chuckled. “Oh, he’s going to accidentally overhear some things about Zoe.”
Traeger snorted. “Like he just did when he hid right outside the door and listened?”
“Exactly.”
“The guy loves her.”
“I know, and she’s been really good for him. He’s just hurt right now, but when he has a chance to go over what happened in his mind, he’ll come around and go after her.”
“Man, I hope so because I don’t want to have to deal with the knife-wielding psycho again.”
Fury laughed. “Yeah, me either. I haven’t seen him play with his knife once since Zoe came into his life.”
“I haven’t either,” Traeger said.
Fury relaxed back against his chair. “I guarantee they’ll be back together by the weekend.”
“That gives us four days.”
“Hell, we can do it,” Fury said with conviction.
“I’ll get to work.” Traeger walked out.
