This was Dimitri’s and Nine’s story. They’re both complex characters that blur the lines between morality and immorality. In graduate school, I specialized in abnormal and developmental psychology. We were taught to avoid labels, to think with an open mind, and listen. Dimitri Nikolaev is a flawed human being, but he is one of the most intriguing characters I have created. Not everyone with antisocial personality disorder is the same. Dimitri is an individual that doesn’t have a conscience and doesn’t feel emotions. There are others who do have limited feelings of remorse and guilt. It can vary by individual.
As an author, I like all the characters I have created (I’m also biased) but there are only two characters who I still think about every day and still affect me even though their book is complete, and they’re Enzo Vitalli and Dimitri Nikolaev. They’re the two most intense and complicated characters I have created with the darkest books. They’re the only two characters I have written where their minds and mine have merged until I no longer just wrote them but have felt them.
In all of my books, I like to highlight and explore sensitive yet important topics. Close to 14,500 to 17,500 people are trafficked into the United States each year. Human drug mules are another form of trafficking.
I like to explore all aspects of the true real-life mob in my books, and I don’t shy away from the realness of it.
The next and final book in the series is A Web of Lies: An Anastasia Retelling. It is about the Bratva female assassin that appeared in A Beauty So Cursed and A Kiss of Venom. The final book will also feature extended epilogues of the previous characters in the Black Widow series.
