Angel’s Trumpet by Sem Thornwood

The next day everybody was at Bella and Alessio’s apartment. Antonio came with the twins before them because they were too excited to meet Clara. When Alessio and Bella came, they even had a fight over who was going to held her first.

Because Verona was a sweetheart, Valerio won. They didn’t fight a lot, but apparently, Clara was a good enough reason.

“How does it feel to not be the little one in the family,” Verona asked while Valerio was busy cuddling the baby.

His face scrunched up. “I was not the little one. You were the little one.”

“I am older than you by three minutes.”

Valerio thought for a second. “Well, I am taller.” To that, Verona only rolled her eyes.

I rose to my tiptoes to whisper Sal’s ear. He leaned in so I could actually reach him. “You know it is like we already have children.” When his brows came together, I pointed the twins with my head. “Those two.”

Sal smiled, looking at his siblings beaming down to Clara. “We really are their parents.”

“We’ll have another one when they are old enough.”

“I like that idea,” Sal said and nibbled my ear, making me giggle.

Then his mouth left my ear because he got pushed away from me. “Please don’t,” Alessio said and went to take back his daughter. Bella seemed well-rested, but I could tell Alessio didn’t sleep all night.

Sal pushed his shoulder. “You got my sister pregnant. You have no right to talk.”

He just grinned at Sal, and then Antonio appeared beside my husband. “Then let me repeat. Please don’t.”

Everybody laughed at that. I loved this moment. Just us family together. Everything was perfect.

Everybody except Antonio sat in the living room. He was making dinner since he was the cook of the group. Carla was back in Bella’s arms, nursing hungrily. She was young, but she was always hungry. As far as I could tell, it was good.

Valerio and Verona were sitting close to Bella. Valerio seemed like a little kid instead of the asshole guy he was trying so hard to be. Maybe he was coming into his senses finally.

“You can’t stop looking at her, Valerio,” I stated. I was ready for rejection. He was really at a hard age.

He took one more look at Clara, and then I felt how he gave up on the lies. “Fuck, she is cute.”

Bella’s eyes widened. “Valerio!”

He shrugged, and Sal leaned as much as he could with me on his lap and slapped Valerio’s head. “Not in front of the ladies.”

He turned back to him with furrowed eyebrows. “You say fuck in front of Mia all the time.”

I couldn’t help but smile. Much more than you know, buddy.

Sal, on the other hand, was not very amused. “Not in front of the ladies who are not your wife then.”

Valero rolled his eyes, and I put my head into Sal’s shoulder, smiling. Alessio took Valerio away to sit next to Bella and put kisses all over his wife and his daughter. I wanted to stay at this moment forever. Everyone I loved was here, and everyone was just purely happy. I wanted this to be our normal. No more drama and no more chaos. Just peace and smiles.

“I love you,” I whispered to Sal’s ear like those words could seal my wishes and make them true.

He chuckled softly to my suddenness but nuzzled my cheek. “I love you too, Mia.”
