Six Weeks of Seduction by Ellis O. Day

WEEK SIX: THE FIGHT

CHAPTER 74:  SARAH

“Damn it.” Sarah wanted to toss her computer across the room.

“What’s up?” Nick sat on the couch working on his laptop.

“The deal fell through. They won’t agree to the price. Not on paper.”

“What deal? The apartments for the vets with pets?”

“No. That fell through weeks ago. We’d decided to build a shelter instead.” She wanted to cry. The new shelter would’ve been perfect. They could’ve saved and rehabilitated at least one hundred more dogs.

“Oh. You never mentioned the other wasn’t going to work out.” He closed his computer. “Let me take a look.”

“No. Thanks though.” She had to talk to Peter.

“Sarah, let me help. It’s what I do.” He walked toward her.

“Thank you, but I can take care of this.” She closed her computer and the hurt on his face almost made her cringe.

He squatted by her and took her hands. “I can help you. It’s what I do and I’m damn good at it.” He kissed her knuckles. “Please, let me take a look. They may not be able to back out at this juncture without fines.”

“I know that. I’m not an idiot. I’ve been running this business for years.”

“I didn’t say you were an idiot.” The muscle in his cheek began to twitch. “But sometimes fresh eyes can help.”

Her phone rang. It was Peter. “Thanks for the offer.” She leaned down and kissed him. She’d love to take him up on it but first she had to tell him about Peter because her brother-in-law’s name was all over the documents and Nick would realize that her supposed ex-boyfriend shared a last name with her sister. “We can talk later, but I have to take this.”
