CHAPTER 23:  Maggie

Maggie laughed and sipped her drink. Richard was charming and attractive. It was flattering that he was interested in her, but he wasn’t Terry. She scanned the Club, feeling a little guilty for not giving Richard her full attention, but her heart and body wanted Terry.

Richard’s grin widened and he leaned down, his lips almost touching her ear. “I think you’re in for a night you won’t soon forget, little Maggie-May.”

“Get the fuck away from her.” Terry’s words were low and dangerous.

Maggie jumped, her entire body tingling at the sound of his voice.

“Terry, how nice of you to join us.” Richard straightened.

“She’s mine.” Terry stepped closer.

Richard grinned, a hint of fire in his grayish-blue eyes. “That’s for the lady to decide.”

Both men looked at her.

“Ah…” She had no idea what to say. She wanted Terry but he’d ignored her. He’d sent her away.

“Tell him that you’re with me,” ordered Terry.

Annie grabbed her arm, pulling her close. “Don’t make it too easy on him.”

Terry glanced to the side. “Patrick, get your woman out of my way.”

Patrick walked up and leaned against the bar. “Annie will decide when she’s ready to go.”

Annie grinned at her boyfriend. “Have I told you how much I love you?”

“Not today.” Patrick’s eyes roamed over her and Maggie almost fanned herself. “Worse yet, you haven’t shown me since this morning.”

“We can’t have that.” Annie hugged Maggie. “Make him suffer but not too much. He’s hurting too.” She took Patrick’s hand. “Let’s go.”

The two wandered away, heading toward the playrooms.

“You seem curious about those rooms,” said Richard. “I’d love to show you exactly how much pleasure can be had back there.”

“That’s not going to fucking happen.” Terry grabbed her arm, pulling her to his side. “She’s with me.”

“Am I?” She jerked free.

“Yes.” His face was tight with anger.

“You told me to go away.” Even saying those words hurt.

“I didn’t tell you to come here.” He stepped forward, boxing Richard out of the conversation. “What in the fuck are you doing here?”

She shrugged. Looking for him wasn’t the right answer. It was the truth, but she wasn’t admitting that, at least not yet.

“Well, you’re leaving.”

“I am not.” She crossed her arms over her chest. This man drove her crazy. She loved and hated his domineering ways.

“Seems, Maggie-May wants to stay and play.” Richard moved back to her side.

“I’m not kidding, Richard. Leave us alone.”

“I need to hear it from the lady first.” Richard looked down at her expectantly.

She frowned at Terry and turned to Richard, a smile spreading across her face. “Thank you for the drink, but I do have some things to discuss with Terry.” She looked over her shoulder at him, letting the smile drop and then turned back to Richard. “Maybe when we’re done, I’ll find you.”

Terry muttered a slew of curse words.

Richard grinned. “Absolutely. If Terry can’t satisfy your…curiosity, come find me. I’ll be happy to help.”

“You heard her. Now, go.” Terry grabbed her arm. “Or better yet, we’ll go.” He walked toward the door.

“Wait.” She stumbled after him, her short legs no match for his long ones. “Stop.” He wasn’t listening again. “Red.”

That did it. He halted midstride, looking down at her. “You can’t keep using that for no good reason.”

“I’d stop using it if you’d listen to me just once.”

“I’m listening.” But from the look on his face, he wasn’t happy about it.

She gazed up at him. He was so mad and yet she felt safe with him. He’d never hurt her, not physically anyway, and she wanted him bad enough to risk the emotional pain of him leaving her. “I want to stay here and explore.”
