Tarnished Love by Bianca Borell

What were the chances? I slept with not only her roommate but also her best friend. I did sleep with her, right? I don’t remember anything past the undressing and fumbling around for a bit. I would like to say I feel better, but I don’t because she cheated on me first. She’s a good actress too. She just came from a yacht party where she was all over that guy, fucked him probably too, but she ran away from me with tears in her eyes. It’s over. What do I care?

The pounding on my door has me yanking it open with anger boiling in my veins. I might let some steam out with the poor intruder. But my plan backfires when Damien shoves me inside and punches my face. I hold my nose while blood trickles down to my mouth. He knows. I spit at his feet while every muscle in his body strains.

“How could you?”

Is this the question of the week? He seethes while he rakes a hand through his hair, locking his hands over his neck.

“What is wrong with you? I am so mad at you I could kill you.” His voice lowers to threatening, and I flinch convinced that at this moment he could.

“Bria wanted it like this. She protected you. Stupid loyalty.”

He winces. I pour two glasses of whiskey and slump on the couch.

“What have I done?”

“You pushed until you pushed her away.”

“You fucking asshole.” He strides to me, his steel eyes burning with undiluted rage.

“No, Damien, I thought . . .”

“You shouldn’t have fucking thought. This is Bria we’re talking about having a fucking serious condition. What I did, I could have killed her.”

“But you didn’t.”

“Bria always protecting everyone while no one fucking deserves her love.” He speaks her name, and a hysterical laughter erupts from him.

“Are you going crazy?”

“If something happens to her, no one will be safe from me. I’ll ruin everything, starting with this fucking sham of a family,” he threatens and darts away, but his words chill me. He is in disarray, and he should be, he lost her for a second time.
