Vicious Desire by Leslie V. Walker

Chapter Three

Brendan

Iwatch her run away into the dark night, clutching her phone for dear life.

With curves in all the right places, Ayanna Wilson has the power to bring any guy to their knees.

She doesn’t see it. I can tell by the way she carries herself throughout the town; Ayanna thinks she’s invisible. I see her though. I saw her that summer and just a moment ago. I felt it in the way her body was pressed against mine.

I haven’t had her so close in years and fuck did it feel just as good if not even better.

Just watching her pinned to the tree called to another side of me only she has ever seen before. But it can’t happen right now. Not when the stakes are high and there’s no one we can trust.

“You sure she won’t talk?” Gunner asks, taking my attention from where she last was and back to my group of friends who have been waiting in the back.

“No. We’ll deal with it later. For now, we got other shit to do. Tell me what else do we have besides this chicken shit being caught at the scene.” I approach all three them ready to know more of what happened.

Rocco and Zane came barging in into the back building just about an hour ago with the guy who says he’s named, Arnold, with blood all over him. He’d just murdered one of our friends in another station we have nearby, just outside the perimeter of Ashbourne Hills.

We don’t know what’s going on. We haven’t had an attack like this since we took over years ago. But we’ve all seen the slight change. There’s something else going on in the back. We have to figure out what it is before it’s too late.

“Jonathan was just completing the ordering tax for the town over when Arnold approached him,” Zane begins. “The bystanders were there at the time but fled in fear. Jonathan said he came out of nowhere yelling it was time for a change. Whatever that means. I don’t think this was at random, someone planned for this to happen. This was planned and there are other factors at play.”

I’m glad Rocco wasn’t alone because then we would have been screwed, and by the looks of it he’s currently drowning on his own shit and not fully with us. It happens from time to time. Between all four of us Rocco is the one who likes to get down and dirty really quick. He lives between getting high on ecstasy just to feel good and then drowning in the deep shit like cocaine. Just by the way he’s leaning against a tree and staring lifelessly down to the ground I know he’s hitting it hard. It’s what he does to control himself from doing something dangerous. We tried to help him and make him stop, but his demons are already too deep for anyone to control.

Zane being there with him must have mean he was in another one of his phrases.

“Nothing else? You didn’t find anything else on him?” I ask trying to see if he missed anything and just doesn’t recall.

“What do you expect? I had a dead friend just a few feet away from me while another was all drugged up throwing up on the side of the road while the one who did the crime was trying to get out of my hold. So, no, fucking sorry I didn’t get anything else.” I ball my fist holding myself back from lashing out at him.

Me and Zane have never really seen eye to eye. But we stick with one another because even through the tough shit we’re family.

I look back to Gunner who was with me when they arrived, and he shrugs not saying anything. He’s never been much for words. He speaks through actions. Though you can never get a read off him because he’s as closed off as a fucking nun in a vow of silence.

“It was a fucking question. Watch your tone.” I look back to the cabin to where the guy is. “We’re going to have to do dig further then.” I turn back to all of them. “I’ll go over everything and the upcoming plans. But first Gunner, go do a stake out of the area. We have to circle the businesses in the area. But let’s finish him off first.”

I start my approach back to the cabin as Gunner goes back to the hangout and the other two follow me. My mind races with so many scenarios on what the fuck is going on. But one thing it keeps going back to is her. Ayanna Wilson is sure to have a place in all of this whether it is intentional or not I’ll find what it is even if it ends up with her in between.
