Her Daddy’s Special Girl by Mary Potter

CHAPTER ONE

Sitting at the bar, staring at my martini, I realized I didn’t even know how to go about doing this. I really wasn’t one for flings, never mind one night stands. Yet here I was, hoping to find someone to take me home.

It had been a long week. Work had been getting busier and busier, and it felt like I always had dozens of emails in my Inbox, no matter how many I answered. I also had some stressful family issues with my mom being sick. For weeks I’d been trying to push through, but after getting yelled at by my boss today, I knew I needed some release.

I’d broken up with my last boyfriend a few months ago. We had been good for a while, but the spark of attraction had petered out for both of us, and I hadn’t been with anyone since. It had been even longer since I had the type of sex I really craved, the kind where I could feel small, safe, and be my true Little self.

I took a sip of my drink and looked around. There were lots of gorgeous men here tonight, which meant my pool of options was bigger, but I was trying to suss out which of them had interests that overlapped with mine.

From experience, I knew this was hard to figure out right away, but I also knew that it was possible. My friend Bonnie was a Little like me, and she found Daddy’s for the night (or sometimes for the week) regularly. She always said she wasn’t the type to settle down with just one guy, but that she knew what she needed in the bedroom and wasn’t going to sacrifice that.

Bonnie was going to join me at the bar later, after she got off work and if I hadn’t already found someone. It was still early, so I didn’t anticipate leaving any time soon.

Friday nights were busy at the club. I used to come here more often a couple of years ago, but I hadn’t been in much of a dancing mood recently. It was hard to wrap my head around letting go of everything and letting my body move, when my brain was constantly buzzing about deadlines and projects and how to be there for my mom. I tapped against the martini glass with one of my nails and sighed.

“Hi there,” someone beside me said. I turned to look and saw a guy with very dark hair and a sharp nose. He was smiling at me. I knew other people might find him cute, but he wasn’t really my type.

“What are you doing here all alone?” he asked.

“I’m waiting for a friend,” I said automatically. Announcing that I was looking for someone to hook up with wasn’t what I’d planned, especially because I wasn’t attracted to this guy, so it was best to keep it vague.

“How about I sit with you while you wait?” he asked.

“Um.” I paused, trying to think of some excuse. “Thanks, but I think I’ll just wait by myself.”

“Oh, come on!” he said playfully, his smile getting bigger. He put his hand on the back of the empty chair beside me and waited, as if he expected me to give in. “Just until your friend gets here.”

“I don’t think so,” I said.

“What,” he laughed. “Do I need to buy you a drink first?”

Without waiting for my answer, he looked over the bar and started snapping his fingers. He smiled brightly, turned back towards me, and beckoned someone over with a wave of his hand.

I felt disgust roll through my body. I’d worked as a waitress for three years, during college, and had people snap at me that way. It always left me feeling less than human. Only entitled pricks did that, and I absolutely wasn’t interested in going home with one of those.

“What are you having?” he asked, clearly not picking up on my revulsion to him. He kept smiling at me, but instead of it being charming, as he obviously expected it to be, it felt sleazy.

“Vodka martini? Dirty, I’d bet.”

I didn’t even know how to respond, I let my jaw drop open and my eyebrows pulled together.

He took that as a sign to pull the chair out fully, preparing to sit down. “I knew it,” he said. “You look like just the kind of dirty girl who wants a few of those before you’re ready to let someone take care of you.”

My face heated up. I did want someone to take care of me, but not him. Never someone like him. He wouldn’t know how to be a good Daddy with a selfish, careless attitude like his. I’d never feel safe enough to let go with someone who wasn’t totally focused on me.

“Oh, finally,” the guy said. He was looking over the bar and he went to sit down. “One double shot of vodka and a dirty martini.”

Before I could respond at all, I heard a deep sarcastic laugh. “I don’t think so, pal. It’s time for you to go.”

I turned and looked over, recognizing the voice as Will, the club owner. He had his soft green eyes on me, full of concern.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

I sigh and nodded, feeling safe now that I knew there was someone to look out for me.
