CHAPTER 16:  Maggie

 

 

 

Maggie sat in her car…no, Terry’s car and cried. She had no idea what’d happened. Maybe, he only wanted women who needed him, depended on him for everything. Now that she had money, she only needed him for her heart and body, not to support her.

It didn’t make sense. He’d stayed at her house and had cared for her and the kids. They were still asking for Mister Terry. This was what she hadn’t wanted to happen. He’d not only hurt her but her kids too. It was over. Done. She wasn’t letting anyone hurt her children.

She started the car and drove home. She was done with him, with men, but he was so sick right now. She knew exactly how miserable he must feel. His entire body had to hurt and not getting enough fluids wouldn’t help. He needed water with that fever. She pulled into her driveway and hurried into the house.

“Kids, pack your bags. We’re going to stay with Mister Terry.” She shooed the babysitter out, paying her a little extra since she hadn’t been able to all those months.

“Is everything okay, Mrs. Givens?” asked Tina.

“A friend of mine is sick. Flu like we had. We’ll be gone a few days. I’ll call you when we get back.”

 

As soon as she had all their bags packed, she drove to Terry’s house. She hadn’t locked the door behind her and he probably hadn’t moved from the couch. She was going to stay until he was well and then she’d leave and never look back.
