Daddy’s Insatiable Little by Jess Winters

CHAPTER ONE

LOLA

There was shattered glass all over the front of the shop. I inched my hand slowly towards the emergency button, which was located underneath the counter, and pressed down on it as quietly and quickly as I could.

The man who was robbing me didn’t seem to notice I’d lowered my hands. He’d entered holding a knife, and after having tossed a brick through the window, he began to steal as many of the engagement rings as we had in the first glass encasement.

The rest of them—and the safe—were all located in the back. I wondered if he would realize a few of the front cases contained fake replicas meant to be try-ons for bride-to-be’s.

“Your manager sure is foolish, leaving you all alone up front like this,” he said, waving the knife around.

I watched as it caught the light, terrified of what might happen next.

I’d pressed the emergency button, so where was everyone? Wouldn’t the sheriffs at least come and save me?

Even though I loved living in our West Virginia town, it had been prone to a string of accidents and illegal actions. It was getting scarier for me to live in my house alone.

My mom was off galivanting with her latest boyfriend, leaving me to watch the house. She knew we wouldn’t get robbed, even if I wasn’t there. I think she just liked the idea of me staying home for the summer.

This was ironic, considering she wouldn’t be back from her trip until August. I wouldn’t have been feeling so alone if I’d had a man by my side.

It was too bad all the sheriffs were taken. I watched as my friends and fellow Littles continued to fall in love around me, desperately hoping for my Daddy to come and sweep me off my feet.

I wasn’t that hard to handle, was I?

That day, I had decided to wear my short black shirts and white halter top to work. It was sweltering, the temperatures climbing into the steep eighties, and the air conditioning barely worked in the front room.

I watched as the robber wiped sweat from his face before tossing a few more rings into a small velvet pouch. Before the sheriffs even arrived he left, disappearing through the now-shattered front window display.

Suddenly there were four squad cars and a team of men entering the building, all looking for the robber.

One of the sheriffs walked up to me, gun still holstered around his waist. He was muscular, and I could see his tanned skin creeping beneath the deep-v of his work uniform. I wondered if he had any tattoos, or hair, or a six-pack.

Okay, so I was drooling a little over how hot Sheriff Marcus was. But I couldn’t help myself. He was hardly ever around, usually off on some trip with his snooty girlfriend, and whenever he did show his handsome face, all the girls in town swooned for him—even the married ones.

“Evening, miss,” he said, his voice tinged with that Southern drawl I found so sexy. “Would you mind accompanying me into the back room to answer a few questions?”

I nodded, still unable to speak.

I guess I hadn’t realized how rattled I was from the whole encounter. Even as I sat down across from him in the office, and he gave me a glass of water, I felt my hands shake out of control.

To my surprise, Marcus put down his notepad and pen and took my hands in his.

“What’s your name, honey?” he asked, rubbing his thumbs softly over the tops of my hands.

“Um, it’s Lola,” I said.

Instinctively I retracted one of my hands, tucking a streak of hot pink hair behind my right ear. I didn’t want him to think I was too young to be running the store—I had just turned eighteen a few months ago, though my mom always said I had a baby face.

“Lola. That’s a pretty name. Miss Lola, would you do me a favor and describe the guy who was just here?”

“Okay, I think I can do that,” I said, my voice small and scared.

I began to describe the guy, who had been tall, with gloved hands and a ski-mask over his face. The only defining feature were his eyes—they were so crystal-blue they’d looked almost like robin’s eggs.

“He left through the front of the store, not the back. Um, in case that helps you with your case,” I said.

Marcus still hadn’t let go of my hand. I felt color creeping into my cheeks and hoped he wouldn’t notice how thrilled I was to be touched by him.

“Where’s your manager? Shouldn’t she be working with you tonight?”

I shook my head. “No, she took the week off and left me to work by myself. It’s been hard, because summertime is one of the busiest seasons besides Valentine’s Day and Christmas. Everyone keeps getting engaged and…”

I had to stop myself. Was I going to tell Marcus all of my problems? Get a grip, Lola!

To my surprise, he chuckled.

“I know what you mean. Seems most of my friends have been in here lately, purchasing rings for their lovely Littles. I’m sure you have yourself a fine young man to take care of you.”

I shook my head. “No, I’m single,” I told him.

He studied me for a few more seconds before standing, releasing my hand. Instantly, I felt his absence. The air was somehow chillier without Marcus standing right next to me.

“Well, how about I give you a ride home? I bet your parents are worried sick about you by now. News travels fast around this town.”

“My mom’s gone on vacation, too. But I would love a ride home, if it’s not too much trouble.”

“Well then, I have a proposition for you. Why don’t you come back to my place and spend the night? It’s dangerous to be by yourself, especially when we have a robber on the loose.”

I bit down on the insides of my cheeks, hard, trying to contain my excitement.

“I’d like that very much, sir,” I said.

Something flashed across Marcus’ eyes and his lips spread into a smile.

“Sir—you’re quite polite for a young woman, you know that?”

“I was raised to respect my elders,” I said, which was only half true.

I could respect an adult, as long as they treated me right.

I wouldn’t lie, though. For in that moment, I felt my panties getting wet at the idea of calling Marcus more than just sir or sheriff. I wanted to call him Daddy, and to be carried in his arms and cared for until we fell deeply, and sweetly, in love.

“You alright there, Lola? You’re staring off into space.”

“I’m so sorry, I’m fine I promise.”

He took me by the hand once more. “Well alright, I’ll take your word for it. Let’s head over to my car, and I’ll get you set up in the back seat. I’ve just got to pass these notes to my team members and then we’ll be on our way.”

“Kay,” I replied happily.
